ESL for kids--worksheet website roundup

After teaching adults for four years, I recently started tutoring a 9-year-old girl in English. All my resources were aimed towards adults and I had no idea how I was going to keep her interest and motivation high. Of course I had to turn to the internet.

In our set up, we don't have a board, overhead projector or any kind of multimedia. Therefore we don't do any listening activities and we work primarily from worksheets and pictures. I am probably going to do some Christmas songs pretty soon though.

  • Anglomaniacy (pretty great name) is my favorite site for sure. Here you can find everything you need. I mean. In the voice of Gary Oldman. EVERYTHING.
  • ESL HQ is a good site for all kinds of information but I use the Worksheets page the most. You do have to weed through good and bad worksheets but they have exercises, games, matching, anything you need. Plus there is a "Make a Worksheet" page if you don't find anything you want/like. The Forums page lets you search for specific things.
  • ESL Kids creates worksheets, flash cards, exercises and games from themed vocab words.
  • Tools for educators lets you make all kinds of games with vocab.

Holy two thousand and seven, Batman

This was apparently my life during my impressionable undergrad years:

ugh. picked up a shift tonight but this will be a good weekend. am happy it's cold so i can layer up and look obese. walked around and posted fliers about the writing center and had an asian conversation with (professor)*. got a cigarette off (professor), even though i plan on quitting soon. got bored and stamped last night at work. ignored schoolwork all week but plan on studying so i can, idk, graduate. thought about a press or writing internship. am realizing this journal is kind of pointless.
