lion in a coma
while writing an essay on yonnondio for my lit class, i typed "housewife," since it was written in the 1930s and hell, that's what they said at the time. pages underlined it, a right-click revealed the suggestion of "homemaker." thank you pages, for keeping me PC.

water curses
i'm visiting ohio mid-february for a couple weeks. i don't have much time to think about it because i'm shit busy beforehand doing things i should have already done.
today it was 13 degrees celsius so we rode our bikes to the elbe, which was ridiculously flooded. the bike paths were completely covered in water and you could only see the blue bike sign sticking out of the water so we took mostly roads unfortunately and walked around the blaues wunder. we went to a café and played a couple games of sorry, which i remember loving as a kid. we had a wooden board and it didn't have cards like apparently the american one does? but we played a couple games and drank coffee. last night i taught bastian how to play egyptian ratscrew, which seems to give us both heart attacks. i think i'm getting old.
i'm going to eat some mexican food and make my mom make chili and read the newspaper with my dad and call my brother "joshie" and read some books and try to decide which books to bring back with me and play with my cat and write a couple letters and laugh with tom and drink something in the zephyr and visit my old professor and laugh too loudly with my cousin and try to memorize the landscape of the area i tried so hard to leave i think.
now bastian's making steamed bread dumplings and i'm a bad person for sitting here and blogging.
we rented annie hall from phase iv. it's right around the corner from us and we're there often because they have a great selection--they have a section called "trash" with cinematic masterpieces like boa vs. python (which, i admit, i have seen, coupled with curse of the golden flower, which made an amazing movie night, i might add). but actually, i was shocked to see wayne's world there because it's a goddamn classic. anyway, i was excited of course to see they have an asian film section and mad amounts of tv series. i want to rent mad men to see what the fuss is about.
i'm really over-dramatic.

panda panda panda
matt+kim is such happy music. and i'm in a great mood! even though today was the start of school after break, i have an easy day of working on a presentation/annotated bib and giving a practice test.
B and i had plans to see black swan at programm kino ost but i got the dates mixed up so we'll go next week. but perhaps this weekend we'll go to thalia and see the kids are all right. i'm very behind on cinema, which i used to be über-knowledgeable about while living in the US and trailers are played constantly, but without a TV i rely on this site, which lists all the original-language or subtitled movies playing in dresden. which i know is kind of a cop-out and i should really be watching movies in german, but watching american actors with dubbed german voices is too strange for me ie the time i flipped out while hearing al pacino's german voice. some things you just don't mess with.
programm kino ost and thalia are definitely my favorite cinemas in dresden. the rest are over-done and too much. perhaps it's because i grew up going to carnation cinema (cannot find a picture, settle for this cheese shop in alliance), which still costs $4.50 for an evening show.
thalia incidentally is also my favorite bar in dresden. it's very cozy with small tables and very easy to have good conversations over a staropramen with close friends. i hate loud, crowded places except when it's good for dancing. the lebowski bar is a necessity for all fans, but it's so cramped and crowded and you always end up accidentally sitting on some stranger's lap as they push their drink to you, saying "IT IS WHITE RUSSIAN, TRY, SEHR GUT" without fail.
